Anybody have a list of how to check each of the relevant parts? (Obviously, this one should include engine/transmission mounts and heat shields that can sound like suspension rattle on bumps.)

I've always just gone with a shotgun approach on my beaters, replacing control arms, tie rods, sway bar bushings and such all at once, then struts if the others didn't fix it, (we've got some really bad tooth-cracking paving issues around here, where a nice smooth road gets you confident and then suddenly slams you so hard you'd swear the front tires blew) but it might be handy to be able to narrow down a failure that can't be chalked up to all the parts being original on a 10-20 year old car.
